Expedia, the world's largest online travel company, has appointed Agency M to manage its cruise SEM as it expands into Australia's growing cruise sector.

Agency M, GroupM's digital marketing agency, is the only agency to be working with Expedia on SEM. The appointment follows the expansion of Expedia into cruising with the addition of voyages from more than 30 cruise lines to its product range.

For Expedia, the expansion comes as more Australians are cruising than ever before, with the Australian cruise category growing at a rate of 24% in 2011 versus 2010. Australia has the second highest cruise penetration in the world at 2.7%, behind the US.

The Expedia win follows Agency M's recent wins of Bankwest's SEO account, MYOB's SEM business and SEM for foreign exchange trading company DMM Securities.
