IAB Australia Submission on the Exposure Draft – Privacy (Children’s Online Privacy) Code 2026

On June 16, 2026 Policy and Regulation

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner has published an exposure draft of the Children’s Online Privacy Code, including new rules which require organisations to consider the best interests of children before collecting their personal information. Members can access the IAB Australia submission on the Exposure Draft of the Privacy (Children’s Online Privacy) Code 2026 (COPC) and the accompanying Explanatory Statement. We support the objective of strengthening children’s privacy protections online and recognise the importance of ensuring that online services handle children’s personal information responsibly, however our submission outlines significant concerns about aspects of the COPC as drafted.
